Why businesses choose HantarSMS

Direct telco routes

Registered shortcodes on Maxis, CelcomDigi, U Mobile, Tunetalk, XOX, YES and Unifi — not a grey reseller route.

RM0.20 flat

One price for every Malaysian network. No setup fee, no monthly minimum, no hidden per-route surcharge.

We don't screen you out

Most gateways reject whole categories of business outright. We review case by case and tell you straight whether your content will get through.

Real delivery reports

See exactly how many were delivered, not just how many were submitted. Anything we fail to submit is refunded automatically (messages the telco blocks after submission are not - the upstream bills us for those too).

Why RM0.20: we don't reject you by industry

Most Malaysian bulk SMS providers blanket-ban entire verticals. You sign up, top up, clean your list — and only when you send the first blast do you find out "we don't serve your industry". Getting your money back is then their call, not yours.

We work differently. If the content is legal, the recipients agreed to hear from you, and there's a way to opt out, we take it — your industry alone doesn't get you turned away. RM0.20 buys more than a message: it buys a route that won't cut you off halfway.

Our only hard line is the law. Scams, messages impersonating banks or government agencies, and lists of unknown origin: we don't carry those. Every send (number, content, timestamp) is logged and retained so we can answer law enforcement — which protects recipients and protects you if you run a real business. Before sending, make sure you have recipient consent and comply with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). How to stay PDPA compliant →

What businesses use it for

If it involves reaching Malaysian mobile numbers fast, SMS still beats everything else on open rate.

Promotions & sales

Flash sales, restock alerts, festive campaigns. Reaches phones that never open email.

Event & booking updates

Confirmations, schedule changes and last-minute cancellations that reach people who are not checking email.

Appointment reminders

Clinics, workshops, salons, tuition centres — cut no-shows without phone calls.

Payment & delivery alerts

Invoice due, order shipped, driver arriving. Transactional messages people actually read.

Internal notifications

Shift changes, emergency broadcasts, staff announcements across branches.

Customer win-back

Dormant customer lists reactivate far better over SMS than any other channel.

Work out your cost

One SMS segment is 160 characters in English, or 70 characters if your message contains any Chinese, Tamil or emoji. Longer messages split into multiple segments.

Common questions

Do I need to register a sender ID?

Messages go out over our registered shortcodes, so you can start sending immediately. If you want your own branded sender ID, that needs separate registration with the telcos — talk to us and we'll walk you through it.

Is there a minimum top-up or monthly fee?

No monthly fee and no contract. Top up any amount by WhatsApp. Credit does not expire.

What happens if a message fails to send?

You are refunded automatically for anything we fail to submit. You only pay for messages actually submitted to the telco - once submitted, a message the operator filters out is still billable, because the upstream bills us for it.

Can I send in Chinese?

Yes. Note that any non-English character switches the message to Unicode encoding, which fits 70 characters per segment instead of 160 — so a Chinese message costs roughly twice as much per character. The cost calculator above shows this live.

What you can do with HantarSMS

Send from a 5-digit short code

Our shared short code is live, so a new account sends from a numeric sender on day one — no registration queue, no monthly fee for the code. Customers can reply to it.

OTP, alerts and reminders

Transactional messages triggered by your own system. Retries are idempotent, so a timeout on your side never sends twice or charges twice.

Send from your own software

A plain REST API with the same per-segment price as the console. No API plan, no platform fee. Full documentation is public.

Run a campaign blast

Upload a list, see the billed segment count before you confirm, and get a delivery result for every individual number afterwards — not just a total.

Marketing that complies

Consent, opt-out and timing under the PDPA — plus screening for the protected brand names that carry an RM1.50 per segment penalty.

Direct Malaysian routes

Maxis, CelcomDigi, U Mobile, YES and Unifi, with delivery receipts passed through as the network reports them rather than assumed at submission.
