Malaysia phone number cleaner
format, de-duplicate and check a whole list

Paste a list or open an Excel or CSV file. The tool converts every Malaysian mobile number to one format (60…, 0… or +60…), removes duplicates and shows which entries are not valid mobile numbers. Nothing is uploaded: it runs in your browser.

Output format

Runs entirely in your browser. Your numbers and files are not uploaded anywhere.

What counts as a valid Malaysian mobile number

Malaysian mobile numbers start with 01 when written locally, or 601 in international format. After the leading 0 there are 9 or 10 digits: 012-345 6789 has 10 digits in total, the newer 011-1234 5678 range has 11. In international format the 0 is replaced by the country code 60, giving 11 or 12 digits: 60123456789, 601112345678.

Spaces, dashes, brackets and a leading plus sign are only formatting, so +60 12-345 6789, (012) 345 6789 and 0123456789 are all the same number. The tool strips the formatting and treats them as one, which is how duplicates hidden behind different formatting get caught.

The two Excel problems this fixes

The disappearing zero. If the phone column is not formatted as text, Excel stores 0123456789 as the number 123456789. Exporting to CSV keeps the damage. A Malaysian mobile number without its 0 is a 9 or 10 digit number starting with 1, so the tool puts the 0 back.

Scientific notation. In a narrow column Excel shows 60123456789 as 6.01234E+10. When the file is opened directly the tool reads the full stored value, and when a CSV really contains the short form it converts it back. To avoid both problems in the first place, format the column as Text before you type or paste numbers.

When a file has several sheets or columns, the tool picks the sheet and column with the most phone numbers and skips a header row such as "Phone" automatically. A cell holding two numbers separated by a slash or comma is split into both.

Which format should you use?

For SMS platforms, APIs and most CRMs, use 60123456789: no plus sign, no spaces, country code first. It is unambiguous and survives being opened in Excel, since it no longer starts with 0. Use +60… if a system asks for full international (E.164) format, and 01… only when the list is for people to read or dial by hand. HantarSMS accepts all three and converts them the same way this tool does.

Why cleaning the list matters before you send

Cleaning the format does not make a list lawful to use. Marketing messages need the recipient's consent under the PDPA, and a list bought from a third party is the fastest way to get complaints and filtered messages. See our PDPA guide.

Phone number questions

How do I convert 01 numbers to 601 format?

Paste the list into the tool above or open your Excel file, and choose the 60123456789 output format. Each number loses its leading 0 and gains the country code 60, with spaces and dashes removed. Copy the result or download it as a CSV.

How many digits does a Malaysian mobile number have?

Written locally it has 10 digits (for example 012-345 6789) or 11 digits for the 011 range (011-1234 5678). In international format, with 60 in place of the 0, it has 11 or 12 digits.

Why are some of my numbers marked as not recognised?

The usual reasons are landline numbers (03, 04, 07 and so on), numbers from other countries, a digit missing or added, or two numbers typed into one cell without a separator. Landlines and foreign numbers cannot receive SMS from a Malaysian short code.

Is my list uploaded anywhere?

No. The tool runs in your browser: the file is read on your own computer and nothing is sent to our servers. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.

Can it tell me which network a number is on?

No. Since mobile number portability, a number that started on one operator can move to another and keep its prefix, so the prefix does not reliably tell you the network. SMS reaches all Malaysian networks at the same price, so it does not affect sending.
